i hope this doesnt sound too yucky- but we all have had it it some point in our lives- everybody poops- or in this case, doesnt.
Anyway, i've had long history of struggling to 'go', and recently its been a little worse; i haven't went in about 3 weeks, and over the space of those 3 weeks- my flat mates and i had about 2-3 nights where we just pigged out on food (awful- i know), so all that food we consumed is still- well, inside me..somewhere, and my scales say i have gained 4lbs!!! yet i ate well every other day- apart from those days.
could the extra weight- even a little of it- be due to bloating/water/'waste'?
please help!!
thank you!!

Hi,
The extra weight can be due to waste and partly water weight. I think you should go to doctor to have your condition checked because 3 wks is a longgg time.
Are you eating too much protein? Sometimes it can cause constipation. I suggest u drink lots of water and eat fiber rich food. Drinking tea after eating a lot also helps the digestion.
I hope you "go" soon.
All the best,

definitely - "going" can make the scales drop a couple of pounds and if you haven't been in 3 weeks you probably are bloated - I agree that you should go to the doctors x0

First I recommend you see a doctor. I suffer from constipation as well and my latest experiment is eating an apple at an empty stomach as soon as I wake up. I don't if it'll work for you.
Other methods->1 tbsp of olive oil in the morning, prunes, lots of water(3L per day), persimmons (the miracle fruit for constipation) if you're able to find them anywhere at this time of year.
Epsom Salts (take it early in the morning diluted in water, followed by loads of water intake during the day). This will definitely flush your toilet, but make sure to stay at home during the day.0 -
Yes, agreed; being constipated can definitely make the scales rise. Try weighing yourself after you "go" and see the difference. If there isn't one, then you may want to see your doctor!0

i am seeing my doctor asap about the 3 weeks- its rather worrying o.o
thank you all so much for the comments! that has definitely put my mind at ease0 -
Almost definitely waste weight. I've lost anywhere from 2.5-4lbs after not going for three weeks. (it happens to me a few times a year so I started checking just for kicks)0

I'm glad you're going to the doctor! That's a really long time without going. When I'm not restricting my diet, I go a couple times a day. I get nervous if I don't go once a day when I'm cutting calories! Honestly, I notice a few extra pounds if I miss even just one day, so 4lbs build up in 3 weeks is likely. Have you tried drinking coffee or tea? That usually helps me. I would say eating a larger meal helps get things moving as well, but you already did that. I'd also be eating a ton of fruit and some bran flakes. Do you have any pain?0

Three weeks? Ugh, how uncomfortable!
Yes, it can definitely make a difference on the scale. I hope you sort it out soon.0 -
Yeah I struggle with it as well - though never that long. I started taking fiber supplements (Benefiber is the best IMO, I hate the fake orange taste and grainy texture of the other stuff), I also started putting either chia seeds or flax seed on my cereal in the morning. And, I take CLA, which is supposed to help reduce body fat, a claim which I will not comment on, but it's an oil pill (safflower oil to be exact), and it seems to, uhm, lube up the works.0

Your doctor can help you....but there are 2 types of fiber (soluble & insoluble). The 2 types have different functions. I wouldn't just start adding fiber right now...because something is definitely up.
When people start reducing their fat intake....they can become constipated. Staying hydrated helps. Exercise can help too.

It's probably bloating and waste, especially if your stomach is distended. (I have a bunch of pics of me looking weirdly pregnant, but it was all bloat.)
Personally, I don't recommend fiber. It's okay for keeping you regular, but can make things worse if you're already constipated.
If this is a persistent thing for you, you may also want to check up on food intolerances. I used to have this problem, and it was due entirely to undiagnosed gluten sensitivity. I cut out grains, and it's no longer and issue. Lactose intolerance can also cause this.
Just to add to remedy list, so long as you don't have blood sugar issues, you can also try a 1-2 day vegetable juice cleanse. Green juices will make you go and flush out most of the bloating. (But don't do this frequently, they have a TON of sugar, and lack things your body needs for healthy muscle and nerve functions.)0
