So a lot of people don't seem to understand sometimes why a lot of people here are so against diet pills. As well as being a waste of money in my opinion (my opinion, may not be yours), they can also be dangerous as they aren't exactly very well regulated. So here is a cautionary tale, to make sure if that is the route you want to go down, to watch what you are putting in your bodies.

Yes, she had 8 pills; probably over the recommended dose, but I think this still highlights the dangers, and why at the end of the day CICO is probably the safest and most effective way of losing weight.

She bought them on the street/online.
At least when one buys legal medications, the side effects can be monitored by a doc.

Do you mean prescription? Prescription diet pills I have no problem with if they are recommended by a doctor and can be monitored. But all too often people order pills and things online, thinking they must be safe simply because they are purchasable.

Read the article-these pills contained pesticide-NOT meant for human consumption! 2 would've killed her!
Lesson-do NOT buy/take medications on the Internet and/or street.

sounds like your trying to scare people.

that's like saying someone overdosed and died cause they injected too much marijuana drugs so we should be wary of all drugs include pharmaceuticals/prescribed drugs

Then why did you start off with:
So a lot of people don't seem to understand sometimes why a lot of people here are so against diet pills
That's hardly the same message. Also:

Well regulated? The drugs in question are illegal street drugs, not meant for human consumption. That means they ARE well regulated. The regulations are clear: Don't take them and it is illegal to sell them as diet pills.

Not scaring; educating my dear :)

Also, 'injecting marijuana drugs'.......lol :p I think you have completely missed my point. As I said in one of my comments, no problem with something which is prescribed and monitored by a professional.

While I don't care much for the article or this thread, this statement is crap. Once someone gets a prescription filled, they don't have to go to a doctor or get monitored unless they need a refill, and some prescriptions can be filled without seeing a doc for months on end. I've been taking the same bp meds for two years and have only seen my doc twice for follow up.

OK, well I apologise for not correctly formatting my text so that the intended message was displayed at the top of the post. I was simply trying to highlight why diet pills can be dangerous, and why people take a very harsh line when it comes to discussing them on here. My line of thinking was 'many people are against diet pills; here is why. They can be dangerous. Please don't buy them off the internet or street.' I assumed that people would easily be able to see where I was going with that.

And yes, OK, point taking about the 'regulation' if you want to be precise about it. But the point is, they are still available, and people still need to be careful.

Honestly, regular, controlled diet pills can be dangerous too. My sister has enlarged heart but was prescribed phentermine for weight loss anyway, and after a few weeks taking it she started experiencing severe tachycardia and palpitations. That's when you stop taking them, though, which someone with good sense ought to know to do.

Ever actually read the side effects caused by common medications ? Just about every prescription medication on the market is going to list a wide range of horrible side effects including death. As for street drugs ? Ya people OD on drugs every day.

Didn't read the article but it's been on the news today - she bought them online and the active ingredient was some chemical (don't recall the name) used as an explosive during WW1. 21 yrs old, horrible story.

I don't know the situation in the US is but it's scary what kids can order online here (I say kids as the adverts for these products are clearly scams (although, my daft, OH did order himself some ridiculous fat burners :/)). Not just diet products, some 'legal highs' too - watched a programme where one product, tested in a lab, turned out to be meth!
