Water making me sick?

edited November 2024 in Health and Weight Loss
Basically I'm trying to increase my water intake to the daily recommended for my weight however it's making me feel sick. Am I drinking too much, too quick? I drank 25 oz within three and half hours and I thought that was quite a slow progress. Any ideas or tips?

The danger with water is lost salt/electrolyte levels. There are many recipes for homemade Gatorade that will help you keep things in balance, my favorite is 8 oz water, 2 T orange Juice, 1/2 t salt.

My salt intake isn't relatively low though?

Rule of thumb for drinking: If urine is dark - drink more, if urine is perfectly clear - drink less, and if urine is pale yellow - it's good.

    This.

Remember that any other drinks you have and most foods have water in too.

Yes, slow down and try half the recommended. Does it still make you feel sick?

Would that be the same amount on a hot day?
    A cold day?

    When you are sedentary?
    When using a sauna?

and follow the advice on your urine color. your pee doesn't lie! and not everyone needs the same amount of water.

It can, but it depends on how fast you're drinking it (25 oz in 3 hours isn't fast), what's in it, and if you're too full from eating. For me, I love the water where I live now, but in Iowa, the water tasted like warm pennies.

Yes, i agree with this ^^.
I don't actually drink that much "plain water", but my urine is almost always pale.
I get water from other drinks and certain foods i guess.

Thank you all, I'm guessing I don't need as much water as what I first thought and was told.

I'm not sure if you are just starting to diet or further along in the process. I know when I first started , it was hard drinking 3 or 4 glasses of water. The easiest way for me is to shoot for the 8 glasses a day gradually and if I don't hit the goal each day it's O.K.

Once you feel unwell you really should stop drinking water. You will not die from dehydration as long as your thirst mechanisms are intact, but if you drink too much you could get water poisoning which is deadly. My advice is drink whenever thirsty, make sure your urine isn't too dark in color and then chill: there is no need to force in a certain amount of water
