I have a spreadsheet with columns for all of the various body measurements needed to do every body fat formula in this article. It then calculates all of those formulas and I just keep an eye on the changes.

    Me too. Geekiness FTW! :)

Given that she says she's flabby, 17% seems pretty unlikely.

What we perceive and what we are don't always correspond. Lots of people think they're flabby when they're actually healthy or even dangerously underweight.
While true, 17% on a woman is about 10% on a man and I'm not sure what could be mistaken for flab on either one, particularly at a BMI that is almost exactly in the middle of the healthy range. So, I'd say 17% is still pretty unlikely even if it's possible for someone with sufficient body dysmorphia to think she's flabby at a true 17%.

Which is why I'm assuming that she's probably not really 17% BF.

But, her question was "I'm 17% body fat and I want to know if I can expect to lose more body fat with yoga". The answer to that question is, if you're truly 17% body fat as a woman, you shouldn't be looking to lose more fat, not through yoga or any other method.

No, the answer is "yes, all other things remaining constant." You're answering a question she didn't ask.

Actually, I'd say the answer is probably "no" in this case. Yoga has a lot of benefits, but even the strength forms of yoga like pilates don't tend to offer strength training benefits beyond a certain point. 17% body fat is quite difficult to achieve for a woman; lower than that takes a LOT of work for serious bodybuilders and athletes. It's highly unlikely that yoga alone would offer body fat reduction benefits to someone already so low in BF%.

Anyway, it's pretty much moot; as you pointed out, she's probably not actually only 17% BF. For someone higher on the scale looking to lose that bit of extra flab, yoga could well have some benefits.

Not OP question. Try using quotes so people know what you are talking about.

According to healthstatus.com using the Navy Body Fat calculator, my body fat is 10.95% - would that be in any way accurate? I feel like it's much higher!
Will look into buying a scales, thank you

There are two navy formulas--one for women (hips, waist, neck) and one for men (waist, neck, only). You might double check the one you used? What I like about the navy formula is its only a couple measurements. It's really hard for me to get thigh, arm, etc position consistently. Hips at the widest point and waist at the narrowest eliminates remembering exact position.

According to that I'm 17.374%, which would be closer but I'd go with maybe 3% higher than that.. would yoga help bring my body fat down? I'm apple shape which drives me crazy!
