MFP Calories from Steps Counted via Iphone

I log my exercise and typically consume back those calories. My question is when calories are added based on steps, above your logged exercise, do you consume those calories as well?

Most days, I don't, but when I'm having an "Oops", I didn't resist that temptation, I add additional steps to ensure that I am within my base calories + exercise calories logged + steps calories. Do you think this is acceptable/will be successful?
