How many calories can one survive on?

I'll be frank, I am an alcoholic. I love it, and I drink at least 1000 calories a day. Is there any way, anyway at all, to be able to lose weight and drink this much without inducing starvation?

Depending on how much you have to lose, probably, but you'll be depriving yourself of important nutrients by drinking your calories rather than eating them.

Um, here's an idea. Quit with the drinking and eat food.

    You need help.

Are you eating food in addition to drinking?

maybe not with 1000 calories .. try adding more substantial, creamy drinks in between hard liquor shots to get more proteins and fats into your diet..

I don't mean to be judgmental, but you should probably work on the thing that's poisoning you to death before you worry about weight, or maybe find a way to integrate the two treatment plans, but weight isn't your main problem. I have addicts in the family and I know it's no walk in the park, so best wishes for whatever course you decide to take.

It is so hard to fight a lifelong battle with weight with achohol in the mix. This can be such a painful thing to go through. I can tell you from experience that you can add some extra exercise in. The exercise will increase your endorphins and help you to feel a little bit better. Lots of people find out that their addiction to drinking is a way to cushion the pain of bad feelings...you might need some help in this area...it doesn't mean you are hopelessly addicted,

There is a lot of misinformation and myth about addiction to achohol. The only thing that is really true is you won't ever get hungover again.

Well if reducing your calorie intake is not something you want to do, then the only option left is to increase your exercise.

In the other threads you've made on this topic in the past you were repeatedly given the advice to seek help for your drinking. Have you considered it?

Apparently not. I haven't read his other threads, but I have an uncle who drank nearly two fifths of vodka a day but hardly ate and was always skinny. He quit drinking cold turkey, no AA or intervention or rehab; just quit. That was ten years ago. He's still skinny because he chain smokes, though, and still doesn't eat right. But he's 78 years old, so I can't judge

I have de ja vu. OP, didn't you start this exact thread recently? And the conclusion was basically that while you may not *starve* you would probably end up quite malnourished.

A lot depends on how big you are. If you're normal sized you can probably manage it with a feasible amount of exercise. If you're larger than normal, I think it would be easier.

Do you have a particular drink of choice? Do you like to drink in quantity or could less stuff of a higher proof work for you? 14 shots of tequila is about 1000 calories, as is about 10 Miller Lites.

If your goal is to greater health and fitness, not to mention happiness, rather than merely to lose weight, you will need to give up both food and alcohol addictions. There's so much more to embrace in life that will bring true happiness than there is to let go of, things which do not bring true happiness. Let go of the negative, embrace the positive. Good luck!

You aren't going to starve, but you'll be malnourished. What are your priorities?

I think a lot of this was already covered in your post from last week http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/comment/32021664

A multivitamin and a diet high in fat and protein, since he's drinking the carbs, might be feasible, especially if he's able to exercise to boost TDEE. Chicken breast, some bacon, some good tequila, and a One-A-Day might work. Plus, the lime with the tequila could keep him from getting scurvy.

Same topic, different wording, same user. I don't understand how anyone can actually help someone who want's to drink 1/2 their calories in alcohol. This seems scary dangerous. Good luck Op and I hope you find peace and resolution to your problem with alcohol. As has been suggested, try some more exercise and try drinking less. The exercise really does bring a good feeling.

    You should market that.

Possible? Yes. Wise for you to continue drinking? No.
