I have a friend who always talks smack about how I pay for a trainer but I'm seeing results fast and I love it.. He has been working out for a longer period of time than I have and looks the same .. I ignore it but it's getting annoying

It really depends on the trainer. There are many that got their qualifications out of a cereal box. Others have spent a lot of time experimenting, researching, implementing techniques to get good results. If you're benefiting from your sessions, stick with them!

Trainers are valuable for three reasons:
    - They can teach you how to do specific exercises.
    - They can assess your form and help you improve.
    - They can motivate you to do more (and show up more).

If you have the basics down for what you want to do, have educated yourself on form, and have made a commitment to improve your fitness, then they probably aren’t as valuable. That said, even the most elite athletes have coaches and trainers around to help them get even better. So, yes, it really depends on what you want/need and what that specific coach brings to the deal.

Your point is? You like your trainer and you are willing to pay or you are an annoying friend?

Like you I have a trainer. Before I went to one, I worked out for years and got no where. Since I went to one and go once a month, I'm liking the results I get. Like that someone is holding me accountable if I'm not putting the effort in. As for your friend, ignore him.

I think they're well worth the money! :D Of course, I'm biased because I am one. lol.

It's all about YOU. If it motivates you more, if you squeeze those 1-2 extra reps out that you didn't know you had in you because the trainer is telling you that you CAN, then keep with it! If the results are there, don't break it!

There are also the people that don't know where to start, and really just need a "friend" to workout with, in which case I end up becoming more of a "life coach" rather than personal trainer.

If you know what you want, and the trainer knows their job and how to adapt to your changing needs, yep, they're worth it.

I've worked with a trainer on and off. I get help, learn some routines and then do my own thing. When I need to shake things up I train with him again and he is totally worth the money! If you're getting the results you're after that is all that really matters :)

    LOL

In the UK trainers means sports shoes

    I was most confused

yes I love my personal trainer - I work with one once a week and have done since I started (well the first two months was twice a week) ... he pushes me and changes up my routine every single time so I always feel like I'm just starting out .. but I can do sets of plyometric push-ups and I managed a chin-up unassisted .. and I can do it on my own but not as well

I wouldn't have got this fit or strong without him

I could have written this myself!!

Even though I could write my own plan, or find one online, I pay for a trainer. He's creative and challenging, and loves to Crack the whip and make me do the *kitten* I hate to do. Like lunges. I hate lunges. Yesterday he made me do them holding a body bar over head (which I also hate).

I used a trainer for 3 sessions last year. It was helpful for me because he helped me work on form and just having him show me around made me feel more comfortable and get my confidence up a bit. I think it's completely a personal issue as to how helpful they can be.
