So, I really don't want this to be a reason to not work out. How do I modify exercises like lunges and squats so I can continue to work out.

TIA!

When I had a knee issue I always found that reverse lunges seemed to be easier on the knee. Step backwards instead of forward. It worked for me but I'm sure it depends on the injury.

Unfortunately, the pain is there in both forward and reverse lunges.

Are you working out at a gym? Do they have a TRX? Use a seated leg press machine so you can lift tone and burn fat while stretching out your legs. Also refrain from high impact i.e. jumping.

Also where what caused the pain? You don't want to further irritate the knee any further.

I have scoliosis and it causes trouble with my knees. The Dr told me to swim and bike because they are low impact but effective with burning calories. I would honestly avoid anything that caused true pain because it could ultimately cause injury. BUT first have someone check your form to make sure that you aren't doing them incorrectly.

I am working out at home. I have a mat and good shoes to help with cushioning. What is TRX? I think my pain stems from marching band in high school (20 + years past that now). Normally, it doesn't bother me, but the more active I am, the more it seems to bother me. (Isn't that a telling statement?)

I think I would enjoy swimming as an exercise, but I do not have access to a pool.

bulgarian split squats, step ups, box jumps.

You should really find out why there is a pain in your knee.
Thanks Jareth, I will check those out. I plan to have my knee checked, just wanted some modifications until I can get that done.
