Trying again with a new plan.

Greetings!
I have been a yo-yo dieter for about 13 years now. The first time I was on a diet, I used a well known organization's weight loss plan. I lost 90+ lbs. Long story short, I gained it all back and then some after getting lazy and tired of tracking daily.
I have tried the same company's diet plans several times in the past several years along with with a few others and none worked. Partially, giving credit where credit is due, because I wasn't serious about it, and partially because the plan wasn't right for me any longer, and partially because I would see a weight gain consistently over the first month (which I know is common when you start a diet and exercise plan) but still led to discouragement and so being only half-heartedly committed I would quit.
I'm tired of being fat. I am tired of feeling bad, and I am tired of yo-yo dieting. . I got tired of paying for a plan I wasn't using and wasn't sure was working anymore for me. I am resigned to the fact I have to change and this will be a lifetime change and I need something I can use to help me along the way every day for the rest of my life.
So I started to search around and found MFP online. I was tracking with both this plan and with the other company's weight loss plan that I pay for monthly. I have been here 25 days now. Lost 6 lbs the first week, but since then gained 5 of it back, which I know was from water retention from starting a new exercise program, and am now 3.5 weeks and starting to see the scale slowly creep back down again to having lost 5 lbs total again now. This is more results that I have seen using the other plan in months. So, like I said, I am just sure that wasn't a plan that was for me any longer as everybody is different and bodies respond differently to different things. MFP seems to be the one working for me now.
I'm sure I can do this, but its sure nice to have a community to be able to go chat with for moral support too!

I'm a yo-yoer too. I've been here and gone more times than I'm proud to admit. I've learned that regardless of how many times you start and stop, the community has your back. You will find he support, if you want it. I sent you a friend request. We can get through this together! Lots of luck on your journey.0

Thank you, and lots of luck with yours too. I'm hoping that this will last. I'm going at it with a different outlook, ready to lose, accept the changes and do what I gotta do. Not fighting myself this time. First time in a long time I can say that.0

Hi....I have been on here just over 2 years...I have 'dieted' most of my life and gained it all back and then some. Diabetes and poor health and desperately wanting to be around for my boys woke me up. I have lost just shy of 60lbs...I still have some to lose...20-25-30? And while I have been stagnant for a few months....I remind myself that AFTER two years I am still on track...not losing but not gaining. I have learned so much from apts with a nutritionist and diabetes specialist about eating and exercise! Do I still eat things I shouldn't? Yes. (Cheesecake tonight lol...but I was only 156 calories over for the day!) Small victories lead to great things. One day at a time. First goal should be 5lbs. Reach it and set another 5lbs. If you think my 'thinking' can help feel free to friend me!

Looking for suggestions and support for tracking my diabetes. Any ways to set up goals to track the right amounts for diabetics?0

Kara, you sound as if you are on the right track now. Managing diabetes has to allow for a few indulgences every now and then just like when we are trying to lose weight. I had type 2 gestational diabetes when I was pregnant with my daughter. My husband and mother were total nut jobs about making sure I didn't eat anything I wasn't supposed to.
Finally, on Christmas night at my parents house about 8 months pregnant, I couldn't sleep, so I got up to get some water and I ran into my dad awake in the living room in the middle of the night. He was also diabetic and he was sneaking the Pot of Gold boxed candy that my mom absolutely refused to give him and I because we were diabetic when she gave everyone else their own boxes as part of their Christmas presents.
We joked about busting him, and I told him I was going to tell on him if he didn't share. He laughed and gave me gave me some candy too "to incriminate me to be his partner in crime".
We were smart enough to know to limit it to a couple of pieces, but we also were fighting temptation and rebellion and frustration. We didn't stop with 2 pieces, in fact between he and I we each had probably more like 6 or 7 before going back to bed. We finished off the top layer in the brand new box.
Was it wise? no. Was our sugar levels up in the morning? Yep. But was it worth it? Absolutely! We kept that a secret between us for a long while and my mom couldn't figure out what happened to all that candy. I still laugh about that to this day. That is one of my best memories of my dad, who has been gone for 3.5 years now.
The point is, if she would have just treated us like adults and let us have our own boxes to eat in moderation, we wouldn't have been so compelled to binge. Its okay to indulge once in a while regardless of whether it is for Diabetes or weight loss.0 -

I've gone from one diet to the other since i was about 15 (longer than I care to remember) I've lost weight but always gained it back. Before I started this time I was the heaviest I've ever been, it was only the threat of blood pressure medication that made me do something about it but now it's about fitness and being more healthy, not just losing weight. I make sure I walk every day now and do odd bits of exercise throughout the day.....running at least twice a week is what I'm aiming for (never thought I'd be saying something like that!) i'm on day 10 but weighing tomorrow and then will do it every monday. Welcome and glad you've realized that yo yo dieting isn't the answer. This is a lifestyle change and will teach you the tools for long term success. Just make sure your weighing and measuring everything you consume . you can eat the foods you love in moderation and still lose weight. Best of luck to you !0
