Fitness Terminology

I'm new to all this fitness terminology so can someone explain what TDEE is and how to use that number to calculate fitness and nutrition goals? I'm feeling a bit overwhelmed by all this stuff!
All I know is that I eat calories. I exercise and burn calories. And then I eat the calories I burned back. And as long as I eat less calories then I burn a day, I should loose weight.
So what does TDEE apply to?
