Losing weight in your 30s

Hey everyone! I'm completely new, looking for support...I start the gym tomorrow. I never had a weight problem until age 35, at which point it slowly started creeping up on me. I've been told to 'just accept that I'm gonna be a little overweight' because I'm 36, but I'm gonna give this a huge try. If anyone out there has had similar struggles, please let me know! What happened to my metabolism? Lol! I want to be healthy and feel good. And losing weight, plus gaining some lean muscle would be nice too....this community is really cool.
