:highfive: on taking advice and not getting upset about it.
I know right. It does not happen a lot on MFP forums.0 -
I don't know everything about Freelee but what I do know, and like, is that she encourages eating enough calories. She recommends 2000-2500 and more if you're active. I also saw one of her food hauls and there was an abundance of fruits and vegetables. Enough to fill the back of the station wagon.
Sometimes I browse this forum and see the number "1200" in titles and I wonder how someone can thrive on that amount. Is the goal to lose weight and be bedridden?
In sum:
1. Freelee encourages eating more calories and living an active lifestyle
2. She eats a lot of produce
I'm all for that. You have to find nuggets in what these nutrition gurus (with IG degrees) are saying because if you delve deep enough you are bound to find out something kooky and proclaim them as the devil.

Not so much. She's orthorexic. Her level of activity far outweighs what she is eating. So, not, she does not really encourage eating enough calories when you really get down to it.
Again, anyone who would say a period is a bad thing has no business giving people dieting advice. No period = not enough calories to sustain your reproductive system.0 -

Excessive restriction, even in the context of enough calories, is still disordered eating. Telling young women that it is desirable to cease menstruating is very questionable advice, especially coming from someone with a documented history of eating disorders.
There is more to health than just eating a bunch of produce.

Ah exclusionary diet with arbitrary rules? That's not gimmicky or anything0

She doesn't just claim eating enough calories, it's unlimited calories.
The best part of her claim is that if you fail to lose weight, or *shockingly* gain weight, it's because you haven't given the "lifestyle" long enough. It would seem that it can take several years for malnutrition weightloss to set in.0 -

I don't know of many long-term studies, but I know of many anecdotal reports where raw food eaters feel fine for years and then suddenly develop health problems. Your body can do a really good job of compensating for deficiencies for years until it suddenly can't do it any more. Problems that were years in the making can develop suddenly.0 -
A raw vegan diet can be healthy, if it's planned ( just like any other). What they sell though... An avoidance of mineral rich foods, no leafy greens, ect ( plus the rules about timing and such), is not it.0

Yes, I way over-generalized there. I should have been clear that I was talking about kookoo for Cocoa Puffs raw veganism, like Freelee's kind.

I tend to eat Raw Till 4. I have eaten a whole foods plant based high carb low fat diet for about 3 years. It was the best decision for my health I have ever made. Raw till 4 is eating WFPB HCLF raw for breakfast and lunch, mostly fruit along with greens and veggies, as much as you care to eat, and then having a cooked dinner, usually a starch based meal (rice, beans, potatoes, pasta, etc.). I usually have a starch based lunch rather than fruit, so raw till noon typically.0

Hey, I'm a high raw vegan myself, and so are my kids. As children they eat mostly fruit, because they can't get enough calories on kale. As an adult, I'm eating my leafy greens, cabbages, and other less glamorous food first, because my health comes before the desire to blend 20 dates and 10 bananas into a slurrey. Beans, lentils, tofu, nut milk, and even vegan protein powders are all in my diet too. Raw foods are great, but a well rounded diet is essential.0 -
Raw till 4 AMAZING!! before I got pregnant I was doing a loose interpretation of it and never felt better in my life. Not only did I lose weight but I was more fit healthy AND more slender than when I has an eating disorder. Feel free to add me if you like as I am just now returning to MFP after having my baby a few months ago. Feel free to private message me with any questions and I'll try to get back to you ASAP (which isn't always easy with a 4 month old!).
