Running after back surgery?

Ive been waking every day for fitness and would like to start running. (My current walking pace is a hair shy of running as it is!)
I'm wondering if it's safe for me to start running. Would the constant pounding be detrimental to my back/neck?
Thanks!

That's a question for your doctor.

You asked "would the constant pounding be detrimental to my back/neck?". The only person qualified to answer that is your doctor.

If you're curious about others, you might want to state which type of back surgery you had, and which vertebrae were involved. Otherwise it's like asking who's driven a car fixed by a mechanic. It's too general of a question to mean much.

Depends on what the surgery was for, how recent it was, etc.

Consult your ortho. You should if you intend to do physical activity that impacts your spine.

That sounds suspiciously like medical advice to me.

Yes people run after having had a surgery...... once their doctor clears them.

People are trying to help you. Just saying "surgery" is useless because the type of surgery, location, associated medical issues, etc. have a significant impact on the answer. The answer could be yes, no, or maybe. I work with people who have back and neck issues every day. But based on the information you provided, I wouldn't feel comfortable giving you any advice over the Internet.

Well............. no :embarassed: Not for fitness.

So never mind. It would seem that my experience running after having tubes in my ears 38 years ago, a cyst removed from my sinus 22 years ago, and a vasectomy 10 years ago is irrelevant because I don't do it for fitness.

But that's the only reason it's irrelevant.

I don't understand how you can provide so little information about your condition and then get all butthurt when people respond the way they have.

I run for fitness. I've had three surgeries, but one was having my wisdom teeth removed, and two were cesarean sections. So... *shrug*
