This was a "meet-up" dinner; four ladies (including me). One lady is spending hundreds of dollars going to a doctor and doing the Atkins diet. Says she has lost 55 pounds since January, at which time she weighed over 300 pounds. Another one is going back to Weight Watchers "for the fifth time" tomorrow, so she planned to pig out tonight. The third one wasn't overweight. I ate a grilled chicken salad. The Atkins lady ate a club salad, full of cheese and processed meat, over which she poured pure olive oil and had blue cheese dressing on the side for dipping. The WW lady ordered something that looked like at least 3,000 calories, not to mention her salad with blue cheese dressing and all the bread and butter which she and the non-overweight lady were eating, but especially the WW lady. The Atkins lady and I didn't eat any bread. I had balsamic vinaigrette dressing but hardly used any. I told them about MFP but they weren't impressed because they said they don't have the will power to do it on their own. The Atkins lady can only eat up to 20 grams a day of carbohydrates, but all the fat and meat she wants. The non-diet lady got the name and phone number of the Atkins lady's doctor because her daughter and son-in-law needed to lose weight. I wanted to scream, but didn't. No point to this except to vent. Thank you.

Unfortunately you can't make people listen to you. I once had a dorm-mate that was also obese, ask me to help her come up with a plan to start losing weight. I told her that to start it would help to cut out sugary drinks and to drink water instead, that it would help her to start cutting back on calories. She then proceeded to say how much of a *kitten* I was to my other friends when she reached for a carton of juice because "I told her she shouldn't drink it". That was the end of my helping. I wasn't mean about it or anything. I genuinely wanted to help her.

Bahahahaha my mom did Atkins when I was young and it was TERRIBLE not just for her but for us as she made those bloody awful recipes in the back of the book...
