First NSV (bit long)

So 9 months ago I moved to a new city and since I moved here I have actually lost 34lbs so far. At first I started losing weight without really trying because my lifestyle changed due to the new climate, new friends and being pretty busy starting my master's degree. About 2 or 3 months ago I decided that I actually wanted to start dedicating myself to getting in better shape. I've tried many times in the past but usually I fizzled after a couple months and ended up gaining all the weight back.
This time I've decided to make small changes to my lifestyle to be healthier rather than a few big changes like I always have in the past. I began eating better and walking every night. Each night I walk about 3-5kms. At first even this walk was pretty hard for me and I felt tired by the end. Over the last 2 weeks I've noticed that my walks have been becoming relatively easy and I don't really feel tired at the end of it anymore so I decided to push myself a bit more and I began running a block or 2 here and there. At first even just running a block made me completely out of breathe and I needed to go back to walking.
Last night I decided to throw in a little bit more running. I walked 4kms and I actually ran about 1/4 - 1/2 of it! I know for most people this probably doesn't sound like much but I'm ecstatic considering I used to be gasping for breathe after about a block...
I've decided that I really want to eventually run a 5k. I've seen lots of advertisements for the colour me rad 5K runs and I've always thought it looks like so much fun but never thought I would be able to do one. Now I think there may be hope for me yet!
