I have really low Vitamin D (18) and its been low for awhile. My Doctor has me on a prescription. Just curious to learn more about it. I've read that low vitamin D can cause lots of problems, including low energy, so I just want to educate myself. Just not sure where to start. Thanks!
PS When the weather is nice, I'm outside with my son at the park for long enough most days that its odd I'm not getting more natural vit D from the sun exposure.

I'm another one with a deficiency-I've been at a 21 for at least 3 years, that I know of (the first time I had it tested). My old dr. put me on an rx but it was for D2 and it did nothing :grumble: My new dr. told me to just get an over the counter, higher dose D3, so since April I've been taking either a 4,000 or 5,000 D3 dose several times a week (supposed to be every day but I forget). I go back in this fall to be retested, so we'll see if the D3 makes a difference over the D2.0

I supplement my Vitamin D all year long. With the small amount of skin that is exposed to the sun on a daily basis it's not enough to adequately absorb the right amounts of vitamin D.
Here's an article about low vitamin D levels.

I just had mine tested and I'm low at a 9. I'm also on a script of 50,000 IU once a week, plus she has me on over the counter every day. I'll have to look and see if it is D2 or D3. I've been on both, script and OTC for a little over a month. I go back in two months to have it checked again. I have noticed I have more energy now, but that may be due to the fact that I'm eating better and exercising.0

I started off at 14 and my doctor had me work my way up through the strengths of OTC D3. What finally got me to a good range was 2,000 IU daily.0
