USDA Regs for Free Range Chicken

I work in a food manufacturer and am sent a lot of trade publications. This month I read an article about Animal Welfare. Grass fed beef, non-gmo meat, and free range chicken are all common terms you may hear with regards to your food.

One point I found particularly interesting in the article was what the USDA considers to be "free range" chicken. The USDA considers allows any poultry with access to the outside, even if it's just a small slab of concrete for a few hours per day, to be labeled as free range.

So before paying more for free-range chicken, make sure the supplier is following the stricter standards of pastured production.
