That's like me saying, Oh, I'm an LBC...but when some asks me what that is, I say. "what does it matter? It's just what I am, OKAY? BACK OFF!" LOL

But that isn't how it went down. He didn't say he was, he didn't bring it up. She read it on his profile.
What DID it matter in this thread?
(and he didn't say back off).

He answered a question with a question!

He did not refuse to answer it, he just didn't. If you have seen him on other threads this is JUST THE WAY HE IS. IMO (and my experience) New Yorkers are just short, sassy and yes snarky, obnoxious and IMO can lack tact... But I am from the South and I presume everyone has a tactful way of speaking (or writing on internet forums)...

I learned along time ago posting in the MFP community you can't argue with a wall...

He puts it on his profile, but then refuses to explain what it stands for. Where is the logic in that?

    She asks @ 11:32
    He asks why it matters@11:42
She doesnt answer why it matters and asks again@11:46
    New meadow chips in@11:49

Then various snipey comments about EMTs

Why does it matter what peoples jobs are, unless its being used as directly relevant to the question in hand?
I didnt know what an EMT was, but a simple Google explained.

i give up.......no wonder we have so many negligence cases,
Or the impressipn we don't care.......

Well, I'm not sure how I'm responsible for how many negligent cases you have, considering you live in the UK and I'm in NYC. I must have super powers. Also, I've been working here for 10 years and have known exactly zero EMT's or Medics that have been charge with negligence. Sounds like NYC wins over the UK since you have so many.

I'm curious...if you didn't want people to know you're an EMT, why did you put it on your public profile? You must have wanted people to know, right?

Where did he say that he didn't want people to know he was an EMT?

He puts it on his profile, but then refuses to explain what it stands for. Where is the logic in that?

It is a bit bewildering. Yet...it is the best one that I have read in a while...maybe ever.

To think...it is in the "Motivation and Support" Forum.

I see a post that I think I can contribute in, or, at least, am interested in, and then I see the adversity and the sniping .....so I give up, I don't bother posting cos I don't want to get involved in it all.
Can't just be me, can it????

Having been around on different message boards for awhile I've developed a few personal policies that seem to help me not get frustrated or feel overly sensitive.
    1. Read more than you post. Pay attention to posts/words on that message board that tend to start fights and don't post those things if you don't want to rumble.
    2. Post only twice to a thread. You don't have to keep responding to a thread if you feel someone is being unpleasant or stupid. If you keep coming back then you are part of the problem.
    3. If the thread is 1,000 posts long it has probably already been said so move on.

Yep, this. If you're going to start trying to incite more arguments, at least have the decency to actually read the previous posts. Definitely one my pet hates, people who respond with something ridiculous that clearly shows they have failed to even read the entire conversation and then get snarky when people pick up on it/disagree with them/get annoyed that others see that they are clearly just trying to fuel the flames.

    I thought this a bad dream....clearly not.

LOTS of issues here...but just one thing I will say - I tried to reach out out to Mr M and he used it in a post......genuinely, I thought we could do work together at the time and re-do damage. I ended up copying and pasting cos clearly no one would know what I had said otherwise, which I thought a tad unfair.......

But enough, now. Again, another lesson learned.....I am 3 weeks in and I am learning all the time...........thank you all.

Nope. Not just you. And it's not going to change.

Ta. But it sad isn't it? I have seen some nasty stuff and I only been here 3 weeks. You want to be part of the community but I can be hard to have the commitment when you see the needless sniping and the adversity

*shrug* - if you see a problem you can either be part of it (by joining in, or doing nothing), or part of the solution. People complain about what goes on here, but they never bother to do anything about it.

I am going back to your original post Dufus...

There are often times that I open a thread and say to myself..."Here we go again!". Most often I just move on if I am not in the mood to read the...for a lack of a better word...discussion.

There times however that I do read the "discussion"...often times hidden between the "snark" is actually something written that I go research...make my own decisions on.

I rarely if ever participate in said "discussion". It is usually not worth it to me to become part of it because quite frankly...I don't need to be a part of it.

Here is my take on some of these discussions...

It would be nice if people could get their points across in more subtle ways a times. Yes there are people that feel as if they have all the answers (sometimes they do...sometimes they don't at least not for my specific needs). There are also times that I think that the OP of a thread is dumber than a box of worms...not the sharpest crayon in the box...and that there is no way to get through to them except to hit them over the head with a big board.

I truly believe that there are people hear that really want to help. It justs gets a little frustrating for them when thread after thread after thread is about...

Is 500 calories about right for me...
    21 Day Water Detox...
Sugar Will Make You Explode or at the Very Least Turn You In To Toxic Waste...
I Weight 89lbs and Trying to Drop Another 20lbs...
    I Am A Special Snowflake...
Freeze a Lemon and Lose 15lbs Overnight...

    You get the picture.

Pick and choose your battles...if it is not your battle...watch from the sideline or move on...everything will be okay. The internet can be a tough place...one must learn to observe...participate...or move on. I have been using the "community" here off and on for over a year. So far...I haven't had any "blowouts" with anyone. Why you might ask???

    It is simple...

Everyone here is n internet stranger to me...what they think of me doesn't affect my life nor does it help me reach my goals. I also have thick skin. Over the time that I have been here...I have only found a handful of people that I "listen" to what they have to "say" and then I will do my own research and decide what part of their info fits in to what I want to accomplish.

My opinion of this thread...for what it is worth...

I think it turned nasty when people attacked MrM's personal life. I don't believe in discrediting people for something that we know nothing about. Topics should be kept to the written words that we read in these forums. It is a pet peeve of mine when someone tries to denigrate someone else by attacking their offline life.

I also think...when one criticizes another's behavior using the same tactics that they are condemning...it is a little hypocritical.

    So...

I hope that everyone has a good day...meets their goals...but most of all...don't take things so seriously.

And I think that round up the discussion.
Thank you, Annie. I know I ended up at fault here and for that I truly apologise, I won't make excuses. The thread is there...... I hate to offend anyone, but of course, I don't like to be offended either.
YUp, pull those big girl pants on and either take it or leave it, as you rightly say.

Thank you for taking the time to put into words what needed to be said.
