Ive recently found out that i'm pregnant. Having a very hard time understanding how many calories to eat. Ive been losing weight steadily for a while. Started at 300lbs, now 185. I have been at 1200cals/day intake. I know i should only gain ~15lbs due to my bmi. But, how many cals/day am i supposed to be eating in each trimester to continue to get lean but not hinder babies growth and other such pregnancy related weight gain? I will be speaking to my ob about this also but was curious if anyone else had experience w this.

Most women do not need to gain in the first trimester, but should not restrict. Your OB should be able to give you appropriate dietary advice with regard to intake and weight gain. If you have not seen the OB yet for this pregnancy, you can call and talk to his or her nurse. This is a common question and they should be able to answer it adequately on the phone and it can be addressed further at your routine check ups.0

Hi tjere! I just had my son about 6 months ago. For the first trimester you do not need to add any additional calories but I would also not restrict. Find out your TDEE and eat at maintenance. From the second trimester on most providers want to see most women gain about a pound a week. This will vary with pre pregnancy weight of course. General rule of thumb is an additional 300 calories per day from second tri on. My OB was not helpful at all with nutritional stuff during pregnancy and as a result I gain waaay too much!0
