I know nuts are one of the healthiest snacks around and they have MANY health benefits. But what is another food that could provide just as many health benefits? I am HIGHLY allergic to tree nuts and have already been in shock over them once. My allergy is so bad that touching alone causes an external reaction--consuming is life threatening. I'm looking for an alternative in place of them..

Avocados are also high in good fats and low in carbs, if that is what you are looking for...?

I've heard nuts are good for protein, low in carbs and a good type of fat. I do NOT have a legume allergy so peanuts are ok...but only in moderation to prevent an allergic reaction.

Are you referring to healthy fats? Avocados are a great source for that. Olive oil too!

Fish (not shellfish, but oily fish such as salmon, tuna, sardines, mackerel and trout), avocado, coconut oil & coconut products (some people with tree nut allergies are ok with coconut, but if you don't know or aren't sure, I wouldn't mess with it), olive oil, virgin sesame oil, sunflower seed oil, safflower oil, canola oil, eggs, and flaxseed (I love adding flaxseed meal to yogurt!)

Chia seeds could work for you, maybe. Lots of fiber, protein, and omega threes.

Of course the seeds:Flax, Chia, and Hemp are all high in essential fatty acids and contain protein, but many people are not aware that cauliflower and brussel sprouts also contain a good amount of omega-3 essential fatty acids! These are low carb and low calorie as well!
