My final weigh in, measurements and pics for the Gold's 12 week challenge is Wednesday. My trainer (on Saturday) recommended that I start limiting my water intake and stick to protein as much as possible. He DID say that this would not do very much for my weight, and obviously to limit sodium as much as possible.

Well, I am wondering why this has started to throw my body out of wack? My weight has definitely been affected to the negative. I pretty much don't lose much weight between going to sleep and waking up, and I have actually added about 2 pounds.

I will return to drinking my usual amount of water after Wednesday but am wondering why this affects the body this way? Again, he said it would not help my weight, so he knew what he was saying, and that this was strickly a strategy to just look as good as possible (dried up) come Wednesday.

Thanks.

Dehydration probably makes your body hold onto as much water as it can. Doesn't sound healthy.

    Your trainer is an idiot.

That sounds like terrible advice. I need to drink water to flush water out.

When I drink less water than usual (never deliberately, usually due to being thrown off my usual schedule), I will gain water weight and start to look kind of puffy. It quickly disappears when I resume drinking my usual amount of water. I have read that not drinking enough will cause the body to actually retain more water...my experience fits with this.

If you are limiting carbs and sodium, two of the most common things that cause water retention, then you shouldn't need to also limit water.

Is he a high school wrestler from the 80s? Only time I've ever heard water restriction is for bodybuilders prior to competition for that super defined look and wrestlers making weight.

I have not been very good at tweeking my macros, but i know what protein is. somehow i seem to find carbs no matter what i do. so i am not getting really technical about it. just trying to look good for a before and after pic. this is a one time thing for me. i plan on staying on my new healthy plan but do not plan on doing another challenge after this.

Sodium will cause water retention in the body and believe it or not drinking more water helps reduce retained waterhttp://m.wikihow.com/Drop-Water-Weight

There's nothing wrong with restricting water intake along with sodium/carbs for a weigh in... the issue comes in that you started doing it several days before weigh in. I find the best time frame is nothing more then a day before and drink plenty of water before you start the limitation. This is a pretty known tactic in most sports especially for those that are right on the edge of the higher weight class.

Pretty common in MMA as well.
