Calories Per Minute Burned During Exercise

I recently switched gyms and the other day found myself on about the same model of Stairclimber (moving steps) but newer and with a more advanced display. Magically despite the same time spent (36 minutes) and about the same effort my calories increased from 13 per minute to 16.5. My Polar had me at 12.5. Since this about feeling good I rounded the 16.5 up to 17 and used that.
Joking...I've been doing this a while and 13 or so seems to line up with my experience over time. I'm 55 and my heart rate settles out at around 151, resting 58But it leaves me thinking

Sorry...software problems...anyways I'm curious about these algorithms on machines and how commonly they're this full of it.

I only count half of what a machine tells me- if I count it at all. I don't lose any weight if I eat them all back.0
