How to prevent blisters, particularly when wearing sandals?

Hello,

At the moment my main form of exercise is walking, because it's easy to fit in to my daily routine.

Recently I did about 4 miles in one day, in different stretches and I ended up with the most awful blisters underneath my feet near the toes. It's irritating because on one foot it was so bad I could barely walk for days.

I have to wear sandals in times of hot weather or I get really over heated so trainers are not an option.

What can I do to help prevent the blisters again?

As blisters are caused by rubbing getting a pair of shoes that fit snuggly is the best way. I actually do not like wearing shoes so sandals is my thing. I have found there are some very go sandals made by walking shoe brands that have multiple foot straps that can be ajusted so that the fit is comfortable but is well fitting enough not to cause blisters.

I use Bandaid's friction stick or blister stick, whatever it's called, between my toes, between my toes and the balls of my feet, and on my arches. Even with Thorlo socks, I blister really easily otherwise. I've also been known to use electrical tape to protect the skin on long runs. It doesn't stick hard, but it stays in place and stretches as your foot moves. This was wrapped several times around my foot to protect a spot under my arches. But the blister stick had been the biggest lifesaver. I also use it any time I have a hot spot or when breaking in new shoes and sandals. I suggest carrying it with you for a while.

Good, old fashioned, moleskin. I always make sure I have some on hand when I get a new pair of shoes.

Moleskin is amazing! I have good luck with croc brand sandals too.
