Out of curiosity since I started weightlifting 3-4 days a week I went to see how much protein I needed to intake daily and a website I came across said with my weight I should be consuming 145g. That seems very high. Would anyone help me figure out what I should be consuming? And what are some high protein foods that arent super expensive so Im not always using shakes and bars to supplement?

Protein intake is often suggested as 0.8-1g per lb. I have 140-150ish as a 5ft5 girl, 65kg, who lifts. I don't think it's excessive.

I rarely use protein powder - i havent had a shake in years, but sometimes use it in baking or cooking, or mixed into things.

Eggs/whites, low fat dairy, meat/fish. Also some grains/beans etc have decent amount of protein, but also come with a lot of carbs.

    Protein supplements
    Nuts and seeds
    Milk, cheese
Meats like chicken, fish, beef, pork
    Cottage cheese*
    Greek yogurt *
    Fromage frais* (low fat)
Beans like kidney beans, baked beans ect.

In my experience I see results eating 2g of protein per 1lb of body leans mass ie
(Your net weight - your fats weight) so for a 200lb male with 20% body fat. 200lb - 40lb = 160lb or 160g of protein per day

Oh the * foods are ones I think can be get out of jail free when dieting as pack a lot of protein while still being low in fat. My favourite is fromage frais with a scoop of protein mixed in. It can pack 40g of protein Boooom

I don't think I have ever eaten over 130-140. Most days I think 100 would be average.

Depending on who you ask you get a different answer. Most suggest 1g per pound or per lean pound.

For me that's like 170-240 grams. I can not imagine even getting close to that.

It just seems like a lot. Or maybe it's because I don't eat a lot of meats like I probably should be. I DO eat a lot of cheese, but I blame that for being from Wisconsin. ;) Thanks for the input. I'll try and up my protein even if it means an extra shake and trying some new foods.
