I just came across this app tonight and was wondering if anyone that uses it can tell me about it.....

Does your phone just log your walk once you start it? Do you need to be linked to wifi to use it? Does it suck up data instead? Is it accurate? And I saw it is compatible with MFP, but in what way? I have a fitbit, does it check things differently?? TIA

I use Mapmyfitness, which is also made by Under Armour. I think it's basically the same app, but you can chose whether you're walking, running, cycling etc.

When you start logging a workout it runs off GPS, which should turn it's self off and on automatically. Or at least it does on an iPhone.

It will need an internet connection to sync with Myfitnesspal, but it will sync later; it doesn't need it while you're actually walking. It basically logs the workout for you.

The calorie calculation seems to be based on the same algorithm used on this site, so about as accurate as that. So essentially a little iffy on that front.

I haven't had a Fitbit so can't comment on comparisons with that.

It's quite fun being able to see a map of where you've been and the elevation / speed etc while you're out and about. I find myself aiming for the largest hills I can find and trying to get up them as quick as I can manage.

    Hope this helps!

The MapMyFitness apps (each tailored for the type of exercise) have to have a data connection when loading the maps and uploading a workout. During the workout, little to no data is used.

I have MapMyWalk and I sincerely enjoy it. At every mile, it makes a little announcement about how far I've walked, and how fast. I appreciate the way it syncs with MyFitnessPal and tracks the mileage on my (new) walking shoes.

Does anyone know how long I can pause a workout? If I walk to the store and pause it for an hour while I shop, will it continue tracking from where I left off or is the pause function only for short breaks?

The bolded part is a function you can turn off and on.

I use mapmyfitness as well and I have a Jawbone UP.

    I did a 30min walk yesterday

mapmyfitness logged it to MFP account as 4.5mph 2.2 miles with 274 calories burned.

My Jawbone recorded a 2.12 mile walk with 315 calorie burn

So based on that for distance and calories both are pretty similar. Both use gender, height and weight for the calculation.

Mapmyfitness/walk/run etc all have upgrade options as well for more function. They have a gear tracker for example if you are a runner you can input your type of runners and it helps keep track of the viability of the gear you are currently using and lets you know when to switch them out.

MMF has voice feedback, (tells you how far you have gone) you can add in HRM etc
