An interesting read on losing belly fat...

I came across this article while looking up what an ideal waist size for a woman should be. It's about losing visceral fat (belly fat). I found it interesting and informative. Can anyone who knows about this shed any light on it? Do you think there is any truth to this? I'm wondering because I always thought that you weren't able to target a certain area to lose fat in..

Ignore it. There are actual studies done by actual PhDs in places like Duke University that demonstrate just the opposite--and these are studies with thousands of subjects and well-controlled protocols. Their results are not definitive either, but there is enough evidence to thoroughly discredit anyone who claims "there is only one way" to do anything.

The "author" of this article is just trying to jump on the "all bow down before HIIT" bandwagon before it disappears into the sunset.

While I do not believe you can target certain areas and I HATED circuit training but over the course of 3 years I put on 4 inches/10cm on my waist while my bust and hips stayed exactly the same measurements. Generally a woman's waist should be under 31.5 inches/80cm - larger and you could be at greater risk of chronic diseases such as type 2 diabetes, heart disease, stroke, high blood pressure and some cancers.

I was regularly at the gym, doing a 20-30min jog & 30mins of weights at the gym 5 x a week but gaining visceral fat.

I was also overeating by a couple of hundred calories a day.

At the start of this year, I cancelled the gym membership and started doing Jillian Michaels DVD's at home - the 30 Day Shred, Shred It With Weights, No More Trouble Zones - all of which are high intensity interval/circuit training sessions between 20 - 50mins.

I enjoy being able to work out at home, its cheap, they only take an hour at most and I enjoy them so much I will happily do them 6 - 7 days a week.

Still probably eat a bit more than I need to!

But I have taken the 4inches/10cm off my waist. A couple off the hips and bust too.

Different things will work for different people, but it gets results for me and I love not having to set foot in a gym!
