Logging bacon

Hi,

I want to improve my logging accuracy and consistency.

I read that it's better to log meat raw. My bacon package says that it's 230 cals for 54g (2 slices).

But I can't believe that once the bacon is cooked I'm still consuming 230 cals ? Or am I ?

I was wondering how do you log bacon? What entry do you use?

Thanks,

I log it according to the per slice info on the package. I don't weigh bacon. The bacon package I have says "per pan fried slice" or something like that.

I've always logged my meat cooked... like if I grilled or fried so on and so forth... and 2 slices of bacon is like 80 cals where I'm at lol

You cook off so much fat, I would use a "cooked entry"

Log/weigh your bacon either raw or cooked depending on what the package tells you.

What kind of bacon are you eating? All the packages I've seen are 80 calories for 2 slices. I would be so depressed to eat 2 slices of bacon for 230 calories.

That said, the weight on the package is raw unless it states otherwise. If you really want you can weigh out two slices and see if it really weighs 54g. If so, that's your serving. If not, add more until you get the serving size amount.

What kind of bacon are you eating? Most packaging for bacon that I've come across says for "pan fried slices"...I used to use a regular thick cut bacon that was 100 calories per pan fried slice but now I use a thick center cut that is 100 calories for 2 pan fried slices.

I log it raw, by the slice, per package info. I will weigh three or four slices out of the package to get a good sense of how they average (higher than the package states, lower, or pretty close) and might adjust my log a little to reflect that, but otherwise I don't sweat it and don't worry about the fat that renders out.

If you're referring to back bacon, Google tells me it's thicker and larger than our bacon slices in the States.

No, it's not that type of "Canadian Bacon". It's regular bacon, it's just that the info is "raw" so, that's why I was asking.

But, thanks for your awnsers, I think my best bet is to use a "cooked" entry.
