First of all--You can totally do this, you already ARE :) Just a few questions: how many calories a day are you eating? Are you limiting anything in particular (sugar, carbs, fats)? How much are you walking?

Congrats on not wanting to throw up your food/use pills if these have been issues for you in the past. Take some time to read through the old threads in each forum and you will find a lot of great advice. Good luck!

Hey Denise! That's great and congrats on your baby :)

I am also 26 and I lost 30 pounds in about 8 months by just making better food choices. I also started going to the gym but not doing anything too intense. I approached my weightloss that way because I wanted to make a realistic lifestyle change that I could keep off for the rest of my life and not just a fast way to lose weight and gain it all back. I actually think 8 months is a really short time to lose 30 pounds. I was really shocked to learn how making better food choices helped. Here were my specifics:
    • replaced soda with tea and club soda and enjoyed coca-cola on special occasions (this also tremendously helped cut down my snacking cravings throughout the day)
    • cut down my food portions (I would overeat a lot!)
    • rewarded myself with a piece of candy or cake whenever I went to the gym (positive reinforcement)
    • and I would reflect back each day and understand why and what habits I have. I would say to myself things like this: "Even though I ate a fattening caesar salad, I at least ate a small portion of it." "Even though I ate too much cake, I at least went to the gym today." Mentally trying to understand why you make certain choices throughout the day really help you make better decisions in the future.

I hope these tips help you get started. Also remember you can always start over and patience, patience, patience!

Oh and after I lost 30 pounds, then I got into more specifics like calorie counting. I think it's more important to take things slowly and not overwhelm yourself with calorie counting at first. Once you get more accustomed to a new lifestyle, then start adding in calorie counting and more advanced workouts. Just my opinion...
