Paleo and Hashitmoto's!

Hello all. A year ago I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism and last week I was diagnosed with Hashimoto's. My PCP suggested I check out the Paleo diet and I did some extensive research over the weekend and am on Day #3 of the Paleo diet. I've eliminated all wheat, grain, gluten, dairy, and everything under the sun that is preserved or processed.

What do your meals throughout the day consist of? So far, I've made for dinner: Tilapia with broccoli and Day 1 was "Fried" Chicken (egg coated, almond flour coated and cooked in coconut oil) with brussel sprouts.

Thanks!

You might find this site useful: http://www.thepaleomom.com/paleo-diet. She has recipes and I know is particularly interested in the effect on autoimmune diseases (and I think has Hashimoto's).

PaleOMG and Nom Nom Paleo are pretty good for cooking ideas too.

(I'm not paleo, but I eat enough that way from time to time that I find some of the recipe sites fun for ideas. Plus I just like browsing cooking sites.)

Real life paleo by Stacy Toth is a great resource for paleo cooking. It give swaps, meal plans and what and where to buy stuff.

Just so you know, in case Paleo doesn't pan out for you, I'm 60, have Hashimoto's and am losing weight very successfully just by plain ol' counting calories without any dietary restrictions. :)

Skinnytaste.com is NOT a paleo blog but with some adaptations you could easily make some of it paleo.
I would think gluten free recipes would work as well - I haven't bothered to determine what specialty flours are deemed paleo or not (beyond almond meal, coconut flour, and tapioca starch)

I'd rather die than live without beer, bagels, pizza and donuts.

You might try googling autoimmune paleo in particular if you're going to go paleo.

I'll say... I have celiac disease and Hashimoto's. I also ate paleo ages ago before Cordain even came out with his book (Neanderthin came out in the '90's).

I had no relief from my symptoms, and I still have Hashimoto's. There's a lot of woo on the web about "curing" Hashimoto's by going without gluten and dairy. It's pretty unsubstantiated by real science as far as I can see.

I'm a vegetarian now, and lose weight just fine eating a balanced diet of foods I enjoy.

However again, if you want to give paleo eating a go, do remember that calories are what matter for weight loss and best of luck.

OP: there's a good paleo group on here.

    http://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/group/37-primal-paleo-support-group

The links lemur posted are good as well. But do join the group.

I didn't know PCP was a hallucinogenic drug, but I probably wouldn't listen to the voices.

You can check out nerdfitness for some paleo related stuff.
