i usually get 400 calories or so when I complete 10,000 steps. While losing weight, I had myself down as sedentary and it worked fine. However now that I'm in maintenance, I saw that I was easily getting 4,000 or so steps doing everyday stuff and earning 100 extra calories so I bumped up my activity level to lightly active.

Well, I'm still earning 400 calories when I hit 10k steps and when I hit 2000 steps again started earning calories.

Does earned exercise not decrease when you change your activity level? I guess I don't understand how I'm earning the same calories when before my maintenance was 1530 and now it's 1690. So in my mind I figured I would have to work harder to earn anything.

This is exactly why I leave mine at sedentary and enable negative adjustments.

Maybe you are more active than you think. I have mine set as very active. So far today I have earned an extra 800 calories from exercise. I am at 7,500+ steps so far today. That's almost 4x the national average. I don't eat back many of my exercise calories but if I am hungry I do eat some of them. I'm down 16 pounds over the past 5 weeks. So I don't think it's really a problem. No one is forcing you to eat them after all.
