Polar ft7 battery

Hi everyone
I have a polar ft7 HRM (got it about 8 month ago). Suddenly it stopped giving a heart rate reading. I bought a new battery and changed the battery in the watch (which I found easy- just used a coin to open the battery compartment). However it still didn't work so figured it must be the battery in the strap but I am struggling to open the battery compartment. I've tried using a coin like I did with the watch but it hasn't worke and have also tried screwdrivers. Has anyone else found this problem or have any tips?

I just tried it with a US penny and was able to turn the arrow from close to open. It was pretty stiff though so i could see it being difficult on some. I didn't actually try to open it all the way though.
