Hi all,

We are having thai this evening. I don't know what to choose - my kcal ideal for the meal is 500 kcal Max. I saw steamed sea bass is on the menu and I think you get a lot - but I need some carbs in the evening or else I can't sleep.... Any ideas as to what to choose ? (To be honest would be happier with a pizza but my husband loves thai!). Thanks

One of our local thai places makes delish brocolli in garlic. Some carbs in that.

Pad Thai has carbs in the noodles but a fair amount of fat, plus protein from tofu, shrimp, chicken.

A curry chicken dish with potatoes (carbs) in the sauce. Yum. You'll no doubt have a small bowl of rice to eat with the mixture, there's your carbs.

Thai is one of my fav's. I suspect I would not be meeting my goal the day we go out, so my default plan for such days is to get in a bunch of cardio that day. A run for 45 - 60 minutes will let me eat what I want in the restaurant guilt free.

Delicious though they are, stay away from the noodles and curries. Tom yum soup with chicken or fish is an excellent choice. Also take a look at the meat salads like larb gai (minced chicken) or yum nua (beef).

carbs - steamed (boiled) rice. Simple.

As for the rest of the meal, that's impossible for us to suggest without knowing what's on the menu. Not all Thai's are... well... thai.

The old Thai I used to go to had TONS of "healthy" food, plenty of meat, veg, salads, rolls, minimal sauces - mostly just on the curries. Most Western Thai's go heavy on the sauces though. So who knows.

Enjoy your night out, try not to go crazy but don't sweat it. Back to scratch tomorrow and don't be doing it every night. Or do some exercise.

Can't go wrong with steamed fish and veggies with the sauce on the side. And some steamed rice on the side for your carb fix.

mwyvr - I am looking after little people today but really wish I had the chance to have gone for a run, I find a run curbs my binger attitude too (it increases my hunger though.... if that makes sense, i.e stops emotional eating but true hunger...). Steamed fish and rice. ah ha now it's just portion sizes..oooo looked their menu up online and they have a spicy beef salad.....!
