Some people say "Edit: ..." Others use the acronym ETA. It means, "Edited To Add."

It probably doesn't mean the following when you see it in someone's post:
- Estimated Time of Arrival
- Expected Time of Arrival
- Egyptian Tourist Authority
- Extraterrestrial Artifact

A little. Mostly a reminder to myself and a Public Service Announcement (PSA) to others. I was unfamiliar with that particular use of ETA. Contextually I found it to be equivalent to the arguably more common P.S. (postscript) but that still didn't quite make total sense so I had to do some searching.

In many instances, people don't define what an acronym stands for on the initial usage and then it gets repeated and it can be problematic for readers. So just adding this little post so hopefully it helps out future readers.

Thanks, I've been banging my head on this one and trying to figure out why people were randomly putting estimated time to arrival in their posts.

Its not quite equivalent, though. If you have something to add to a written letter, you have not edited the original work, you have made an addendum or something added after writing the original, which is what PS signifies. In an electronic forum, you can modify your original text, so ETA becomes an important differentiator ...

ETA Qualifying details to portions above.

Yeah, no. I got that. Thanks though. If you can edit the original text, the the ETA after the fact is courteous but kind of unnecessary.
