making wine work for me

Last night i made the final turn into coming full circle with my weight loss.

a few years ago, i discovered the Red Wine Diet. I was doing a high protien/low carb diet at the time, and happened to mess up and have a naughty meal of wine and pizza the night before i was meant to get weighed by my 'im not angry, im just disappointed' coach. i was so upset with myself that i'd messed up,as i was shaping up to be his prize pupil and i really do hate to disappoint people.

but.. lo and behold, when i weighed myself on my own scales in the morning (i used to weigh myself before i saw him so i knew ahead of time how i'd gone) i was over half a kilo lighter than the previous day, despite wine and pizza. 'dehydration!' i hear you cry? well that's what i thought too, but my hydration level was up from the previous day, and my body fat was down. and the alcohol had not yet had alcohol's usual action on my bowels. i had the same positive results on my trainer's scales.

i was pleased that i'd gotten away with it, so a few weeks later when i was having a cheeky cheat, i made sure to have a few glasses of wine again, and again i found myself miraculously lighter the following day despite my sins. i even LOOKED slimmer!

i knew it couldn't be true and would eventually come back to bite me, but time and time again it worked, and it became a running joke amongst my friends and i. having chips? make sure you have a few red wines too! cant resist dessert? better have a wine!

that was a few years back, and although i'll still pull it out once in a while if i've been bad and i have to report my weight to someone, i largely rely on a much more sensible combination of less calories, more protien and a bit of exercise these days.

yesterday night i was hanging around my lounge room, when it occurred to me that since i was booked in for a massage this morning i might as well do a few of those horrible arm exercises that leave you achey. i started out using some canned tomatoes as weights, but found them way too light, so i turned to the only other thing i had at hand that was uniform in size and the right sort of weight.. my old friend, 2 bottles of wine!

i'm sore this morning, but i'm pretty sure that the red wine weights program will do much more for my long term weight management than the red wine diet :)
