Good morning,
I am training for my first half marathon in September. I run three miles during the week and then on Saturday's I have been increasing my distance. The week before the half marathon, there is a 10K I would love to do but is that a good idea? Should I skip the 10K and run a practice half? Thanks for your help.:flowerforyou:

you shouldn't do either 1 week before the half. You really should be tapering two weeks before the half (less miles and easy miles).
how many days a week do you run? you are going to want your weekly running totals in the high 20's leading up the half...and they can't all be on the weekend.0 -

I suggest follow one of Higdon's training plans. You wouldn't want to race a 10K one week out (three weeks out would be ok).0 -

I agree with this. The program I did last year was Higdon's and he even recommended a 10k but as Arc said not 1 week out. Focus on the 1/2 that you're training for.0 -

You could do a 10K or practice half three weeks out or maybe 2 weeks out, but definitely not 1 week out! That final week you should be dramatically reducing your mileage to conserve energy for the half. And I agree with the folks suggesting you should try to get in a couple more easy runs during the week. Higdon's plans are good, or if you don't have time to complete those, try the FIRST plan, which only has three days of running per week. I used it for my first half and it worked great.
