The value of resting

I have always heard that a rest day is a good thing so I do try to fit one in each week (usually Sunday unless I am going hiking with my hiking club, then I pick another day). Last week (not the one that just ended, but a week ago) I ended up taking the entire week off for a family crisis and felt really bad about not even getting my steps in. I did make sure that I stayed within my calorie limit most of the days.
Fast forward to today. I had a great week. I improved my time in the pool (I swim a mile) and will end up way over my weekly average steps. To top it all off, I weighed in this morning and lost 2.4 lb! Haven't had a whoosh like that in a while. I guess it is true that sometimes you need to rest to let your body catch up, in all kinds of ways.
