Certain foods

I am constantly calorie counting. What goes in, what goes out, are both measured with as much accuracy as I can. Yesterday and the day before were a calories deficit yet this morning my weight shot up. I have come to the conclusion that certain foods have a detrimental effect on weight control and not because of the calorie content. For me, that certain food is bread. If I eat bread it has a terrible impact on my weight and my health. Just wondered if other people had identified a bad food for them ? Do other people have a similar bread problem ?

Other than scale weight gain (which is most likely water) what 'terrible impact' does bread have on your weight and health?0
-
Usually this affect is due to NaCl intake. Did you eat anything high in it yesterday?0

Weight fluctuates naturally. Carbs can make you temporarily store water weight.
What exactly in bread would be bad for your health?0 -
I will check the salt level in the bread ingredients. Maybe it is just store bought bread that has that affect on me.0

I think you have the opposite problem over a lot of people you're being too obsessive. Weight will naturally fluctuate +- 4-5 pounds a day due to many reasons. It takes more than one day to lose or gain real weight. We are never set weight for more than a couple of hours because of everything from environmental factors to sodium in food. The aim of this is to lose fat so you need to accept that water is there and will change your perceived weight. I would suggest you weigh yourself less often and concentrate on the bigger picture rather than every minor fluctuation of the scales. Look at the overall trends not the minor things. Weighing daily can be useful if you can detach yourself from the fluctuations it sounds like you cannot.

I don't find any particular food a problem but I do find that certain foods will trigger a splurge in poor food choices, chocolate being the worst ! Portion control goes right out the window0

Water weight is the likely cause not fat weight0

I am finally learning to accept the fact that the scale will go up and down constantly because I weigh myself every day and not once a week, like I should be doing. I now pay more attention to how my clothes fit rather than what the scale reads. I used to wonder also if certain foods may have a negative impact on my weight and I still have no idea. Everything in moderation is key for me. But OP, if you truly feel that bread has a negative impact on your health, then it doesn't hurt to check with your doctor just for peace of mind. Just know that if you continue to be vigilant about maintaining a healthy caloric deficit, then you will eventually see the numbers on the scale get lower a little by little. With time will come great rewards!0

Have any of your MFP friends scolded you for being naughty and eating too much bread?0

How much did your weight shoot up? 1 pound... 10 pounds?
You are most likely retaining water and it will go away.
I would also check your sodium intake report for the week. Some foods like breads can be high in sodium.
It also could be something else and if you just wait a week or two and keep eating at your calorie goal you will lose again.0 -
Its water weight, it'll go away. It's normal.0

Carbs in general are my downfall. Hence why I restrict them. Others are okay with carbs, but not I.0

You are misinformed. There are no magic properties in food that will cause weight loss, therefore there are no magic properties in food that will cause weight gain.
Bread is a carb, so when eaten a person can retain water, but that is not fat. Carbs love to leave water on our bodies. It should disappear in a few days.
The only foods that are bad for me are lactose and soy because they make me ill. Other than that, I eat everything under the sun, and I make my own bread once a week.0 -

I agree on the water weight thing! This is why I can't weight daily or rely on scales, things like this used to mess with my head too.
Oddly fresh bread has a detrimental on my weight too, but because it's possibly the one food I can't control myself around unless I portion and freeze it the moment it enters my house. I leave it fresh in the cupboard or on the side and boom! the loaf is gone in less than an hour. Lol.0
