need to loose 30 lbs! Lost spouse a year ago and now I'm motivated to begin. Want to walk a hour a day.

    Thank you just posted question. I use the Walk Away the Pounds tapes by Leslie Sansone for my age they are great 68, trying to find out how many calories burned on 30 min walk.

    Welcome! To estimate the number of calories you burn on your walks, you can use a site such as the g-map pedometer map: http://www.gmap-pedometer.com/ . Enter your route & the other information it asks for and it'll calculate the calories.
    As a rough estimate, walking burns off about 100 calories per mile for a 150 lb person. Here's an on-lone calculator that will give an estimate: http://www.sparkpeople.com/resource/calories_burned.asp?exercise=315

    MFP can give you an estimate of calories burned as well. Just click on the exercise tab, then Cardio, then type in Walking in the search field. A few results will come up. Just pick the best fit for your walking.
