Herbalife as a company feels ultra-scammy and has been in financial trouble. You don't need anything they sell to lose weight, or to lose lots of weight. CBC in Canada had an interesting segment on their Marketplace show last year - see Remedy or Ripoff: http://www.cbc.ca/marketplace/episodes/2014-2015/natural-cures-remedy-or-ripoff

Currently one can't view nutritional info on Slimfast on-line on either their US or Canadian websites. The database lists a typical shake as 190 calories. That isn't a meal replacement. Call it a snack and I'm ok with it. ;-)

The Slimfast plan published on their Canadian site is: 3x100 calorie snacks, 2 of their 190 calorie "meal replacements", and 1 500 calorie balanced meal = 1180 calories. One size fits all, no mention of age, sex, height, or activity level. Yes, most folks will lose weight under that plan.

Real food holds more appeal to me. That said I am not opposed to using something like a Cliff energy or protein bar as a stop gap after a long run.

I use GNC protein shakes in the morning because I start early, I'm not usually able to eat food for awhile when I wake up, I just simply don't want any, and I can't eat at my desk at work, thus I need something. They work for me for that. But if I had the way to have real food instead I could. But for my needs, these work well.

I use them if I need calories for the day and I add frozen fruit to them usually mango or pineapple instead of any kind of ice. Spirutein http://nutritiondata.self.com/facts/custom/600016/2

    or Genisoy https://www.fatsecret.com/calories-nutrition/genisoy/soy-protein-powder

you can mix them with whatever I've done it with decaf coffee, water, low fat milk, goat milk or oatmeal milk depending on what I have and what I need to hit my calories at the end of the day.

I keep Atkins protein shakes on hand, but I can't say I like them -- they're pretty much around for emergency morning rushes. I'm proably going to switch to something else if the ones I have on hand ever run out (I seriously can't bring myself to have one even once a week). I will say that as disgusting as they are, I notice I have a better workout when I do choke one down, so I guess... there's that.

I got some Syntha 6 protein powder with the intention of using that for breakfast, but I realized if I add milk, it puts it over 300 calories & I still get hungry mid-morning. It does taste pretty awesome, but it's not worth it to me. I found that protein bars work better & are less calories.
