As I approach my next birthday, one of some significance if you like numbers that can be divided by 5s & 10s, I noticed that my winter long series of excuses for not exercising had taken their toll on my waistline.

Rather than go shopping for new pants, I decided there was still time to reach my fitness goals before any birthday cake would have my name on it. I returned to MyFitnessPal after first looking at it some time back and committed to using it as my path to better health.

The combination of logging everything I eat and warmer weather-ideal for cycling-have resulted in a great start and I expect to hit my targets before I being asked to blow out any candles.

What I now need is peer support and nutritional guidance so I can continue to progress as the pounds become harder to shed. Plus I want to make sure that my intake continues to be healthy and allows me to improve my cycling abilities. I hope to continue forever what I have started: healthy eating, regular exercise, positive outlook, mindfulness and community involvement.

Finally, I'd like to share the following: in the past year I've been told that I had cancer (successfully removed--no chemo, radiation or long term worries) and another health condition that will be with me forever (but doesn't have to effect the quality or length of my life).

If you would like to join me on this journey, I promise to do whatever I can to give you as much or more #support, #encouragement,#advice (if your needs and questions are in my knowledge zone) and #kindness as you share with me. I wish you all the success in the world and look forward to getting to know some new friends.

Life is too short to put off things till tomorrow and let's face it tomorrow never comes because each tomorrow becomes today and fades into yesterday. The fact that you are alive and breathing is something that we should never take for granted. Can we love we weight from the grave? Well no!!! Then it is too late. Congratulations on beating Cancer. You are a fighter!!
I'm in your corner on your journey to a healthier you if you'll have me. I'm a firm believer in helping others because if you don't help someone, maybe one day you will need help and no matter where you turn you will find none because you didn't help when you had the chance. Best of luck on your journey to a healthier you.

Hello, I would love to join the journey with you. I too turn fifty this year and recovered fully from cancer 9 years ago (only surgery needed thank God). So pleased you are well and wanting to be slim and not buy new pants :D - me too! I just logged back into MFP after a long break. I have been doing weight watchers and got stuck so wanted to try something else. Hope we can support each other and enjoy fabulous celebrations for our next birthday!! With love, Dawn
