Starting the 5:2 fast diet today, fasting Mondays and Fridays. I know this diet works and I'm hoping I can make it a permanent lifestyle change. All I can think about is food and I'm trying lots of caffeine free teas and water to help with the hunger feeling. Does anyone have any experience, tips or tricks to help stay in track?

I tried it for a week or two as well. And also drank heaps of water, ate HUGE amounts of vegetables because they are so low calorie. But I couldn't function on so little a day. I already have low blood pressure and that just elevated the problem. So unfortunately that's all the tips I have for you. :)

Stay busy. Where you would have had a meal, go for a jog.

Been doing it since 2012 - love it!

    Tips would be to:
Join the 5:2 groups on here.
Research recipes - high volume, high taste helps. Veggies and lean protein are your fast day friends.
    Plan your fast day.
Make your fast day meals an event and not mindless grazing.
    Stay busy on fasting days.
Keep in your mind the thought "I can eat that tomorrow!" when you are tempted.
Lastly make sure you are eating at maintenance on the 5 normal eating days.

I did it last year for 6 months and started again. I love it. It is the best diet i have ever tried ( and I have done a bunch). Anytime I tried calorie counting, weight watchers etc, I got tired of counting every day and losing so slowly. I am losing at the same rate (.5-1 pound) per week - but only have to think about it 2 days a week.

    good luck

Cool, today is my fast day as well (I'm on once-a-week maintenance this year, but was doing 5:2 last fall). As sijomial suggested, the fasting groups on here are good.
I thought about food a lot when I started as well, but it gets drastically easier the more you do it.
You won't die, and the hunger doesn't build and build. It's just there when you notice it.
I'd suggested just staying busy. Drinking black coffee helps too.
    Cheers!
