Slumps, Pot Holes, and Ruts

I have found myself getting, not bored, but not so pumped as I was before. I lost 60 lbs and love the reaction from people, but I have reached a slump. A pot hole in my road to success. In other words, a rut. I am a person who needs the jazz of the exercise and the rush of completing something I didn't think I could do. I want more and don't know where to start. I walk everyday, some more miles than others, but in the start everyone saw the change and was with me. Now I'm alone still pushing myself, but alone again with my thoughts of self doubt. Is it worth it, I'm tired and my ipods not charged. Thoughts like these have kept me from the joy of bettering myself and now I've gained 5 lbs.

Down, but not out,
Nikki

Nikki. I wonder what if we (as sometimes this is my story too) were to implement self challenges. Like for me, starting to run myself up to a 5k, or for you, since that might be easy for you, something harder like a big mountain hike now that the weather is nicer.

I get where you're coming from; if I'm not working towards a specific goal with laid-out guidelines, or if I don't have variety, I get bored and slack off myself.
If it's challenges you need, there are a bunch here on MFP itself - fitness related, weight loss related... DietBet is another option. Try changing up your exercise routine, add more variety. Train for a 5k/marathon/triathlon. Maybe start lifting, if you don't already, and work towards a strength goal. There is no dearth of challenges, I'll tell you that.

Yes, the previous posters said it exactly: self challenges and constantly changing goals is what really helps. I'm always challenging myself and setting goals. Some easier than others just so that I have the satisfaction of victory, but also difficult things that I can focus on and not lose my motivation.

Changing your workout routine or adding to it is a great idea!
