Heart rate monitor accuracy and F6 beeping during workout?

How accurate are the Polar HRM's?? 1-5% over and under wouldn't be bad and I am curious.
Also my F6 beeps quietly when I'm working out..Is that normal? I just got it this morning and tried it out this afternoon. Also if I messed up on the Own Zone(?) can I redo it?
TIA
Fiona
P.S. Its funny that I hadn't been burning as many calories as I thought I was

If it's beeping that means you are not at the correct heart rate. You might need to change the settings. If you go the polar website you can find out all kinds of stuff. I actually had to break down and read the manual! lol0

You can go in and reset your heart rate zone. I just had to play with it and the directions. The beeping has different levels. If it is slow you are under your target zone. Fast beeping you are above your target zone and no beeping means you are in the zone. I turned the beeping off when I took yoga but it did help me stay in or above my zone. There is also a better manual on line at polar that you can print or read. It helped me with a problem that I thought I was having.

thanks...I did read the manual but I'll check the website too because the beeping is slightly irritating...I do know that when I was working out there was a arrow by the little heart pointing down so I figured I was just not at the target fat burning rate0 -

Thanks!! I'll check that out tonight as I want to use it when I bike to work this week0 -
I turned the beeping off because it drove me bananas.
The arrow pointing down means you are over your target HR.0 -
Just got my first HRM.
Wondering what to do.... Would like to record the walk from the station... do I put it on before I leave work (Hours tube ride before I start walking) I guess strapping it on at the gym is no problem... I presume no calibration is needed as it doesn't come up in the instructions.
It's a whole new world... I got the Polar FT4 btw. I never wear watches so I've got it on so I can get used to it.0
