Any desert dwellers out there?...

I live in Phoenix, and since the temperatures have started topping 105, I have no motivation to move. On top of that, my job reverts to 4 ten hour days every June and July. So, I'm getting up at 4:30am, getting home after 5:00pm, and it's hotter than blazes.

I have no energy, or ambition to keep going.

Any suggestions?

I just moved to San Antonio from Detroit (yeah, not desert, but still hot as Hell!) and I'm kind of struggling too.
I've swam in the pool at my apartment complex and am considering (putting off...) getting a gym membership.
Just keep up on the diet portion and try to get some exercise in on your days off before it gets super hot if a gym membership/pool is out of the question.

    Sorry about the heat...
If you can find an indoor pool, water jogging burns massive calories. Maybe even an outdoor pool if it isn't too hot or uncomfortable. I live in Oregon and we have some beautiful weather, but I love the low impact, no sweat, high calorie burn of water jogging. Burns more calories in an hour than walking fast or hiking. When I am done water jogging I go home, shower and go right to bed so I don't even have time to think about food...LoL!

Albuquerque is hitting above 100 all this week, too. Dry, windy, and with the added benefit of fires in the area....Just have had to put a pic on my phone that shows my what I want so everytime I want to cop out, I look at that picture and realize what I need to do to get there. That includes 3 miles in 88 + degree weather and doing Insanity instead of sitting on my butt at home.

You can do it!! Find the motivation and then dig in. Goddess knows it won't be getting any cooler any time soon.

I am in the exact same boat here in Phoenix working at Phoenix College. I have dropped a whole mile of distance in the same amount of time just from the heat. It is draining. I just accept it and get done what I can. Make sure you stay hydrated!

I never thought of water jogging. What a great idea! We have a pool at the Community Center, but I can''t swim b/c I have labrum tears in both of my shoulders, so the arm movement kills me. But jogging should work! They also have a fitness center, but it's on the top floor of the Community Cehter, and it's all windows, facing every direction! I mean, no walls, just windows! Whoever thought THAT was a good idea in the Phoenix summers is nuts! It gets so hot and stinky up there, I get nauseated going there in the summer.

Thanks, everyone, for your suggestions. Lots of great suggestions! I'm trying to keep at least my food in check, even though I haven't recorded anything in a few days. It helps tremendously just getting feedback, and knowing I'm not in this alone.

I'm here in Central Phoenix and it's supposed to hit 112 today. I was out mowing the lawn yesterday and I will be going to the (air conditioned) gym later this afternoon.

You don't really have to use your arms much for water jogging. I started doing a few months ago and lost 15 pounds in 2 months. Life got busy (daughter in hospital, new grandbaby, visitors from the Midwest etc) and I cannot wait to start back up. The calorie burn is amazing. Grab a water noodle and just hold on to it and let your legs do all the work :flowerforyou:

I've always wanted to know what dry heat feels like, here it's always humid and that certainly makes you wish you could be knocked unconscious for a while during those days but thankfully we're not there yet!

I was going to suggest swimming but I see you can't do it... there's lots of water exercises that are becoming popular, you could look into that, see if there are places that offer it. There's jogging, biking and all sorts of other stuff, I saw a program on tv about it, they mentioned how it's awesome for people that are recovering from an injury or for people with joint pain as they can still exercise without putting too much pressure in certain areas that would otherwise be painful.
