Curious to know...does anyone do heart rate training when working out?

I do. I have a polar heart rate monitor that transmits to a watch. I find when I don't monitor my HR I tend to slack a little bit.

Be wary of any wrist heart rate monitors without a chest strap, their accuracy is widely disputed.

I wear a polar as well, FT7 model. I was looking at the Fitbit and to your point was questioning the accuracy. Not sure why more ppl don't use these

Yes. I do HIIT - and I have books on HR zone training. I have done HR testing to determine my zones. I have a chest strap monitor. Agree with @alyxls. Accuracy of wrist monitors are wide. Chest straps from Polar are awesome and they can work with virtually most cardio machines - so the watch isn't needed if you are on a machine.

I have a Polar M400 paired with an H6 HRM strap. I find it really useful to check my rest periods between sets and because it is a GPS unit it makes tracking running, walking and cycling a breeze.
