I started this healthier lifestyle almost a month ago im 269 pounds now ive lost 9 pounds all together. When I first started walking I could hardly do a mile without being in horrible pain but now just after 3 and a half weeks I hit my longest walk yet 5 miles I know it might not seem like much but a month ago I couldn't even imagine doing a 5 mile walk. I average 2-3 miles a day hiking/walking. How far should I be walking everyday I want to lose 50 pounds by September and this week I just started counting calories.. I guess im just looking for any tips and motivation :) please feel free to add me as a friend I need some. Thanks everyone in advance.

There is no set amount to calculate walking you should do to lose your weight by Sept. You can walk as much as you want. You can strive for longer distance walking or add effort (faster)... Exercising or moving more is a personal choice and depends on your fitness levels. As you get fit, you can get strive for more tailored goals that you set for your self.

Remember you do not have to exercise to loose weight. The added activities will get you a bit quicker while you remain in your deficit and you only eat back a small portion of exercise calories (when needed) on the days you walk.

Walk as much as you want, and keep eating at a reasonable deficit.

Walk as much as you like. Add to it a bit more every week if you feel comfortable.

First, congratulations on that first 9 pounds, please keep it up.
Now for the bad news. Using the over-simplified figure of 100 calories burned a mile, you'll need 1,750 miles between now and September if that is how you plan to lose 50 pounds. Between today and September 1st, that would require an average of 15 miles, so you'll really need to step it up I'm afraid. Technically, the true calories burned will be more given carrying 260 lb, but I didn't feel like doing the series summation to calculate the change in burn as the weight drops. If you could keep a weight vest to keep your weight at 260, you could get away with just 9.2 pounds.
As Gia said, you don't need miles to lose weight, just a calorie deficit. To lose 50 pounds by September 1st is going to be around a 1500 kCal deficit, which is possible, but not easy, particularly if you're relying on exercise for all of it.

Thats great progress, if you enjoy it then carry on. onsistency is key, so dont run yourself into the ground. At some stage you might feel its too time consuming and so you may wish to look at other forms of exercise which will burn a greater number of calories and improve your fitness. Start thinking about incorporating some resistance exercises to preserve lbm. Weight loss isnt linear so be wary that you dont set a target which is unrealistic.
