Im interested in purchasing a HRM... Want to get a better idea of the calories I'm burning during my workouts. There are so many products on the market, and I'm new to this.... Any suggestions or insights would be greatly appreciated!

Hi, I have the Polar FT7 and love it.0

I choose Polar since they invented the technology and I've been happy with their stuff for years. I have the H7 transmitter which you can use with your phone and most fitness apps, as well as gym equipment. Chest strap is consistently the most accurate way to measure heart rate. However, every manufacturer uses different math to calculate calories. My Polar phone app always calculates fewer calories than my wrist unit even though they are totally in sync as far as heart rate.0

Of the thre the only one where an HRM might potentially have some value is on the dreadmill, if you're running. If you're walking then your HR won't get into the range where it's representative.0 -
What will you do with the information the heart rate monitor gives you? We are a very techy society and I do log my distances and pace because I use this information. I had a heart rate monitor years ago but realized I was doing nothing with the information it was giving me. If the information is not "actionable," why bother collecting it? The only ones who really need this information is the athlete trying to squeeze the last little bit of performance out. This is only my opinion mind you. Many people love their gadgets.0

Save your money then.
You can get just as good an estimate for running on the treadmill online.
30 day shred and kettlebells aren't a suitable use for a HRM.0 -
