I started out about 5 weeks ago weighing in at 251 lbs. 5 weeks later I'm at 237 lbs. I'm 45 years old, I'm 5'-05" and my goal is 140lbs. And gosh darn it I'm going to do it.
I'm not on a "diet". I've done that many times and it never works. I have simply changed changed the the type of foods I buy. I only buy whole foods. Food with only one ingredient. Chicken, fish, beans, nuts, steak, vegetables, fruit and water. That's it. If it comes in a package I don't buy it. I also have finally started exercising regularly...something I haven't really done in 20 years. I do cardio for 30 min every morning and 30 min weight training every night. I do take days off here and there but only as I have it scheduled. I'm tired of being lazy. No more. I've got a 100 pounds to go and there's no better time then like the present.

Congrats on the weightloss! Personally I buy most of my chicken, fish, beans, nuts, meat, veggies and fruits in packages, except the few that I buy loose from bulk bins, and I don't feel that I have suffered for it, but anything that helps you maintain a healthy diet is good! Plus, cooking from scratch is fun!

I don't have a problem buying vegetables that come in a bag that I can toss them into the microwave to cook them in....but I don't buy frozen or canned. Now a days a lot of the supermarkets have fresh vegitables in little bags...very convient. And they still fit under my one ingredient rule. :)

Even if I go out to dinner I stick to my rule. It's helped me to avoid those ugly cheat days.

:o How do you do that in a restaurant? I think the only things there that could possibly qualify is maybe salad, with just oil and vinegar...even grilled meats and chicken would be marinated or have sauces or tenderizers. What do you eat when you eat out?

Example....went to Sizzler and got the 6 ounce steak with broccoli and water. Yeah sure there is a salt seasoning of some sort on the steak but is that really going to add a lot of calories to the dish? Not significantly. Other restaurants you can order a grilled chicken breast and a vegetable without sauce. I don't eat out much anymore but there are reasonable choices that can be made at most nice restaurants. Yes....fast food places are completely out. Although I have had El Pollo loco chicken a few times. Chicken only of course.

By no means am I saying that I never cheat. But I don't have an entire "cheat day". I'm sure at some point I'm going to break down and go to a restaurant order the Lazanga but I guarantee its not not coming with a Coke. I'm tired of beating myself up for blowing my diet and saying "Oh well forget it now." I just have to go home that night and do a little longer on the cardio or go extra lean on the types of foods I eat the next day or two. I'm not stressing myself out I'm just trying to eat a healthier overall diet.
