Late Night Infomercials

So I had a bit of insomnia last night and ended up popping the TV on at 0330. Mostly infomercials were on, as I expected, but I came across one that caught my attention. It was for the "Food Lovers Fat Loss Plan." I'd never heard of this so I wanted to see what *kitten*-a-mamie crap they were peddling now. Well, I was actually pleasantly surprised. I am posting about it here merely for observational purposes, because I think it's actually a waste of money. But I also think it's a system that is finally pushing people in the right direction. While it does make outrageous claims as far as how much weight one could lose, based on their paid participants (80 pounds in 3 months...no, sorry, not likely), the general premise of the plan makes sense.
This plan is based on learning how to pair and eat proper levels of macronutrients. It seems to encourage portion control and learning to make healthy choices while still having the ability to work favorite treats in here and there. It brags that no calorie counting is needed, but it's essentially in the same vein (all suggested daily meal plans are at least 1200 cals. for women and 1500 for men, and they encourage a food and exercise journal). Granted it does not take an individual approach, like MFP, but it seems to be targeted at carb-heavy eaters. While it's not a low-carb diet per se, it teaches healthy carb options paired with proper protein and fat levels. It's merely teaching people how to eat healthier.
I think it's a waste of money at $120 for all the books and CD's, because one could learn this stuff by joining MFP or reading good articles on the web from reputable sources. My observation is, though, that it seems to be pushing people in the right direction. It encourages a lifestyle of healthy eating, it's not a quick-fix (although the weight loss numbers are dramatic and unrealistic), and it seems to be teaching folks that weight loss occurs primarily in the kitchen.
So yah, all that 'cause I couldn't sleep.

At least your infomercials are not the adult variety. Ours are "buy the nutria ninja" mixed up with "call me...call me now...I'm waiting for your call *insert woman in skimpy clothing shot here*".0

Oooh, remember Richard Simmons "Deal-a-meal?"
LOL, that's the first thing I thought of, because I'm a pain.0
