Knee pain after hard runs

So i completed my 1st ever 1/2 Marathon yesterday 8), now to let you know I've trained for this event for like 6 months and during the training this knee problem would surface on different accounts during the training runs but not on every run. On the last 5K of the 1/2 Marathon it was very "Hilly" my outer part of my right knee was painfull upon hitting the upward slopes or running uphill. The pain would subside during level ground and wasn't as painfull running downhill. I thinking back on my training runs and I think the knee pain occurred under the same situations late in the mileage of my training runs. Today or day after the race my legs aren't too bad, my right knee is ok , a little stiff. Now from what I've been reading it could be ITBS , the pain is centralize on that boney part on the outer knee. So I think the IT band is rubbing on the bone? Maybe just an overuse issue? Maybe muscle inbalance and need to strengthen the glutes or knee muscles. Any advice is usfull. Any ways I finished in 2:02:55 which is a PR from my training runs. If the knee problem didn't occur I could have been sub 2 hours as I was 5 minutes off pace for the last 5k as I had to "hobble" up the hills.

Buy a foam roller and roll out your IT band, quads, glutes, calves and hamstrings.

Do more mobility/stretching work. if that combined with some rest doesn't work then see a physio

have a foam roller and rolling the legs out and stretching for recovery. Just wondering on the cause of the pain.

More than likely, inflammation caused by overuse. This usually happens more with age.
